  • Welcome to a new year

We have fallen behind a bit on our website, and we apologize.  But, we have a new year in front of us, some new members, and some new cars.  Be sure to check back as we will be updating our calendar, not just with the shows we will be hosting or attending, but with all shows we know of.  We will be adding new galleries of past Romin’ the Island Car Party car shows, as well as past HOtrod HOliday HOedown Christmas parties.

Our facebook page gets updated a bit more often, so be sure to check that out too.

Thanks for checking us out, and cheers to a new hot rod season!

  • WOW!!

You guys have blown us away again! The HOt rod HOliday HOedown was an even better success then we ever could have imagined. You raised a total of $2255 and thousands in food and toy donations for An Angels Touch!! We can’t thank you enough. You have put smiles on many faces this holiday season.

  • HOt rod HOliday HOedown!

It’s that time again.  The HOt rod HOliday HOedown has returned to Eagles Bowl!  Get those dancin’ shoes out because the Cadillac Casanova’s will once again be playin’ all the 1950′s Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rockabilly hits you know and love, including Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Everly Brothers, and more!  We will again have a great throwback mixed drink and beer menu, some great vendors to grab some last minute gifts, raffles, FREE bowling after 11pm, and more!

The HOt rod HOliday HOedown is a great family friendly party, but more importantly it is a food and toy drive for a great charity, An Angels Touch.  Formed in 1991, they assist working-class families in times of need. They recognize that misfortunes such as illness, job lay-offs and other unpredictable events can occur at any time and can be devastating to those involved. An Angel’s Touch therefore endeavors to bring comfort to those in need, whether by gifts of food, clothing, toys or other material comforts.

We are glad to partner up with them again this year, and to be able to help local families in times of need.  Last year, with your help, we raised over $500 cash, and THOUSANDS in food and toy donations!!

Cost is $10, and donations are encouraged.

The list of needed items is HERE.

  • Thank You!

    Dear Fellow Hot Rodder,

We would like to take a moment to THANK YOU for attending this years Romin’ the Island Car Party.  We know there is a lot going on these days, and it means a lot that with all the other shows  that you chose ours!  We enjoy putting on these car shows, and we couldn’t do it without your support.

The Romin’ Chariots Car Club has been working with Blue Cap since our very first year, 1964, and we are proud to be able to continue that tradition.  As you know, 100% of the proceeds from this show go to Blue Cap Special Needs School.  The car entry, 50/50, the raffles, and all personal donations!  This year YOU raised a total of $2729 for Blue Cap!!

This years after party was at the Rock Island Public House.  We FILLED the parking lot with and rocked out to some good music, and great beer.  We can’t thank them enough for their hospitality.

On December 5th, our club is hosting our 4th HOt rod HOliday HOedown.  It will once again be at Eagles Bowl, and we have the Cadillac Casanovas rockin’ all night!  This party is a food/toy drive for a local organization – An Angels Touch.  An Angels Touch helps families in need all year in various ways, but as you know, the holidays are the toughest.  In the past 3 years, we have been honored to donate over $1500 cash and THOUSANDS worth of food and toys!  It was all done because of you, bringing the armfuls of donations. More information will be here on our website and facebook page.

On behalf of our entire club and Blue Cap, we thank you for your continued support.

  • HOt rod HOliday HOedown 2014

It’s almost here!  For the past two years, we have had an open invite Christmas Party, and it’s back again for 2014.  The HOt rod HOliday HOedown is a Christmas party/Sockhop/Toy Drive all in one!  We again have the World Famous Cadillac Casanovas playing all the great Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly hits from the early 1950’s such as Elvis, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, The Everly Brothers and more!  We will have a pot luck style dinner (please feel free to bring a dish!!).  There will be an amazing Thowback Drink and Beer menu with drinks like the Vodka Gimlet, Big Mac Daddy, Harvey Wallbanger and beers like Schlitz, Blatz and Hamm’s!  There will even be open bowling upstars after 10:30!!!

But, more importantly, the HoHoHo is a Toy/Food drive for An Angel’s Touch.  An Angle’s touch is a federally recognized organization that was formed in 1991 to assist working-class families in times of need. They recognize that misfortunes such as illness, job lay-offs and other unpredictable events can occur at any time and can be devastating to those involved. An Angel’s Touch therefore endeavors to bring comfort to those in need, whether by gifts of food, clothing, toys or other material comforts. They are a non-profit organization which depends on the generosity of others who are willing to donate their time, money and other resources to help those who are less fortunate.   Last Christmas, with your help, they helped over 30 families, and more during the year. They also passed along Christmas joy to the Blue Island Nursing Home, Courage, Guildhaus, the Southwest YMCA, to the CEDA School in Blue Island, and other organizations. And each year, after Christmas, they pass our remaining canned food donations to the St. Benedict’s Parish Food Pantry and the Salvation Army.

We are proud to be working with An Angel’s Touch again this year.  AND…. this year, as a little incentive for ya, everyone who makes a donation will receive a raffle ticket which may win ya one of a bunch of raffle prizes donated by our generous sponsors and club members.  Our way of saying thanks.

We will also have a 50/50 raffle, in which all the proceeds go to An Angels Touch as well.

The current list of items needed can be found HERE.

Info on last years Angel’s Touch activities are HERE.

Cost is $10 and donations are strongly encouraged

See ya Saturday, December 6, at 8pm!

  • Veterans Day Parade Info

Blue Island American Legion Post 50 and the Blue Island Park District have finalized their plans for the sixth annual Veterans Day Parade to be held on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at 123rd and Western, proceed south to Union St., west on Union to Highland Ave., and north on Highland to Memorial Park at 128th St. The parade grand marshal will be former Tuskegee Airman Virgil Poole of Glenwood.

Following the parade, a variety of entertainment will be offered at Memorial Park. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., an antique car show will take place on the football field, with winners being selected in five categories: participants’ choice, spectators’ choice, club choice, best of show and best dressed. From 12:30 to 1 p.m., the Bagpipes & Drums of the Emerald Society will perform on stage in front of the stadium bleachers. At 1 p.m., an awards ceremony will be held for the winners of the car show. From 1:15 to 2 p.m., rising country music star Makena Hartlin will perform many of the more than 100 songs she has written. The day will conclude at 2 p.m. with a rifle salute by members of the Post 50 Rifle Squad.

In addition to the live events, there will also be displays of antique military vehicles and informational exhibits from various veterans’ organizations. Beggar’s Pizza and the St. Walter’s School Student Council will have booths at the park to sell pizza and chili dogs, respectively.

Post 50’s Veterans Day activities have earned recognition for the second consecutive year from the Veterans Day National Committee. Blue Island is the only Illinois community selected as regional site for the celebration of Veterans Day 2014. The committee is comprised of various national veterans and military organizations and selects a small number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances throughout the country.

Last year’s parade, themed “Welcome Home,” drew more than 90 entries and is viewable on YouTube under “Blue Island Veterans Day Parade 2013.” A similar number of entries are expected for this year’s parade, the theme of which is “Freedom Isn’t Free.”

In addition to the parade, Post 50 will conduct its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Plaza, Western Ave. at Grove St., Blue Island. The public is invited to attend.

******All Classic cars, Hot Rods, Antique Cars, etc should turn off Western at Krueger St (between Tanks & BI park District lot) proceed East to Gregory, turn North.  The Romin’ Chariots Car Club (Scott Schmaltz) will assign spaces to entries.

Line up starts at 9:30 AM****

  • 2014 Veterans Day Parade

For the second consecutive year, the Veterans Day National Committee has selected Blue Island as a regional site for the celebration of Veterans Day 2014.

The Veterans Day National Committee, comprised of various national veterans and military organizations, selects a small number of regional sites for Veterans Day observances throughout the country. Last year, only two were selected from Illinois. From stirring parades and ceremonies, to military exhibits and tributes to distinguished veterans, these events serve as models for other communities to follow in planning their own observances.

Jim Reihel, Veterans Day Parade Committee chairman for American Legion Post 50, was notified of Blue Island’s selection in a letter sent by Mike Galloucis, executive director of the VA Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs. The letter stated that VA Secretary Robert McDonald had also notified Illinois Governor Pat Quinn’s office, and asked the Department of Defense to provide military liaison officers to help support Blue Island’s events.

Post 50, along with the Blue Island Park District, will sponsor the sixth annual Veterans Day Parade starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8. The parade will begin at Hart Park at 123rd and Western, proceed south on Western to Union St., west on Union to Highland Ave., and north on Highland to Memorial Park at 128th St. A classic car show and military vehicle exhibit will take place at the park immediately after the parade. Refreshments and entertainment will also be available at the park.

If you would like to be apart of this years parade, CLICK HERE to download the application.  You can turn it in to the Blue Island Park Dist. (12804 S. Highland Ave. Blue Island, Il 60406), Phaethon Speed Shop (12636 S. Kroll Dr. Alsip, ILL 60803) Or email it to luck-e-pup@comcast.net
